Stem Cell Annoyance

Tanya is tired of hearing that Bush banned stem cell research..

So am I. He did no such thing.

Even if he spent zero on it, that would not be a ban. Refusing to subsidize something is not banning it. Refusing to subsidize art is not censorship. Refusing to spend an infinite quantity of federal government money to look for a cure for AIDS (as Reagan is repeatedly condemned for doing) is not the same as arresting homosexuals for making love in the privacy of their own home. There is no such thing as a “right” to government (taxpayers’) money. There are no “welfare rights”. There is only the right to be left alone. That, in Justice Brandeis’s words, is “the right most valued by civilized men”, and that is a right that I will defend to the death. Don’t Tread On Me.
