I haven’t seen the film. But I lived through the times. Including watching young Lt Kerry on television, complete with late 60s mop-head hairdo overlapping his ears, disgracing the United States of America. The same country whose navy he was still serving as a commissioned reserve officer.

I know that he met at least twice with enemy envoys of North Viet Nam, in Paris, supporting their diplomatic position, and that the enemy used these meetings for propaganda against Lt Kerry’s fellow fighting men. The same as they used Jane Fonda’s visit to Hanoi as propaganda. I wasn’t until later that I learned that the North Viet Nam government had used Lt Kerry’s propaganda to justify torture sessions in which they tried to induce American prisoners of war held by them to certify the same lies Kerry was spreading in the United States.

What does all this mean now? Kerry was a defeatist. Despite the citations which he acquired during his four months of active duty in South Viet Nam riverine waters. His instinctual response to war then was to cut and run, claiming repeatedly that the job could not be done. And he made up scores of lies about American war crimes to justify his own defeatism. Whereas the instincts of George Bush are to choose the appropriate course of action and see it through to completion.

I see this election as the closest replay we have ever had to the Abraham Lincoln vs George McClellan in 1964. McClellan too was a defeatist, and a braggart as well. A general who thought he was the next Napoleon and who could train a great army but could not lead one in decisive action.

All the smart set compared Abe Lincoln to a gorilla, and unhesitatingly called him one. They didn’t like his homely face or his frontier accent. They didn’t like his field commanders of the United States Army much either, “Unconditional Surrender” Grant and Bill Sherman. Soldiers who knew that, without breaking the Confederate armies in the field, the war could only end in defeat for the Union and acquiescense in the dissolution of the United States. And that would be bloody as anything imaginable. Because the toughest men Americans have ever fought in our 228-year history were each other.

And that’s exactly what the Democrat Party was all about that year of 1864. To be sure, they were all in favor of keeping the Union together. But not if it meant any more serious fighting in Virginia, Georgia or Tennessee, with tens of thousands of bodies of Union soldiers being buried as the terrible battles went on and on.

So General George McClellan, the defeatist, was just the man for the “Democracy” that year. And had he been elected and Lincoln retired from office, despite his disavowals, the party that would have put him in power would have negotiated an end to the fighting, which would have meant recognizing the independence of the Confederate states. Which would have meant an end to the United States of America. That’s exactly what it was about in 1864.

And this is exactly what it is about in 2004. The slick Boston patrician speaks soothing words, has an accusation for everything, a real cure for nothing. If elected, he will cut and run from Iraq exactly the way he helped maneuver this country into cutting and running from Viet Nam. We cannot afford another Viet Nam. Not in the war against islamo-fascism. The plain-speaking man from west Texas can’t debate worth a damn. But is decisive and resolute. Just as his predecessor from Springfield, Illinois was at the time of the supreme crisis of the United States.

The time for choice is here. And I choose to stand with president Bush and vice president Cheney. I’ll be out working intensively for their re-election the last 72 hours of the campaign, and serving as a volunteer poll-watcher on election day.

And, yes, I think they will win.

Dean when I came out earlier this week screaming, Kerry is a Jackass you and others must know that post and the few I posted in anger…and this…and this.

This link you just lead us to had the ad to a book I came out yelling by mentioning this author, Richard Mintiter, Shadow War. I could not put the book down and it got to me as deeply as the book, Invasions by Malkin. I listened to Richard Miniter on the television. I heard him tell it like it is and why you will not hear on the television, the main stream bought by either party. I heard him on a simple christian program believe it or not. It was not the christian program that moved me to buy the book. It was the truth of why a president in office during a time of war CAN NOT devulge things.

If I stand up front as a teacher and I am teaching my students geography and showing them where Iraq is and Iran and the surroundings of the country then I am helping them understand we have a great big world and over here is where our soldiers are. Children can raise their hands and ask me about the country, the culture, the questions they have about the reasons our soldiers are right there, right there where I as the teacher have pointed them to. That is my job as a teacher to help them understand.

The book by Richard Miniter, Shadow War should be read by adults and teens and any child that can understand. I wanted this book to sell by the millions.

If the POTUS stands in front of his class…that would be us adults. If he stands before us like he was taken to task on the WMD, when Colin Powel showed us somethings, I personally felt very uncomfortable. We were dragging our feet and then put under a microscope all around the world. We got the senators to approve. We got countries to go along with us. I felt such an uneasiness when we showed things to the United Nations.

The POTUS could very well lose because he is not doing a, Jerry Springer or an Oprah moment. He is protecting those Navy Seals, those BORTAC, those men….many more highly sophiticated men in and around Iran. People that DO NOT get this, NEVER WILL. They want Springer mentality and it does not matter who gets hurt. OPEN THE DAYS OF OUR LIVES….Soap Operas. TRUMP, the billionaire television. (Yes, I know people like it, so don’t jump out at me just try to find my logic). DR. PHIL cures the hurting families in a one hour show. Yes, he helps and yes millions watch him.

The blogsphere is catching on and just last night on PBS the film we had already seen through the blogs of Edwards combing his hair was shown on a newshour.

This to me was a great link and it absolutely must show that it was not a silly christian woman screaming…Go guy Shadow War.

Democrats need to read this just as much as a Republican or a Moderate or a Liberal. Americans and people in other countries would get a much better understanding of a president during a war and what he endures to keep us safe.

I know I don’t spell things right all the time and that surely tells people I am imperfect and that I am trying, really trying.

Buy the book, it will sincerely be a great book for Mother’s and Father’s to hand down to their children and especially those that want to be journalist and reporters. We still have some great newspapers, we still have some great news anchors in main stream and cable.

Your friend Bill did a very good job of explaining blogs. I listened to the interview you linked.

SHADOW WAR…does that title give a clue?

Giggle giggle, I typed, Shadowlands first right above, hey that is a great book too about the life of C.S Lewis.

ON the link provided I meant to tell you that you can read a chapter for free.

I know, I know….shut up Janelle and go take your medicine and go to bed.

5 Arnold Harris October 23, 2004 at 11:04 pm

No Janelle. Don’t just shut up, take your medicine and go to bed. That is the road of slow death.

Don’t allow social convention to shut you in some damned closet. Not ever. Be the Mary Janelle that you want to be, and communicate with the rest of us however you want. Even if only a few of us can understand you as you want to be understood, that’s enough for anybody.

I can understand you. And if I can understand you, so can anyone else who wants to make even a little effort. Just remember that you count.

Here’s looking at you, kid.

What was it that Kerry said that was so bad?

I won’t get a chance to see the film as i’m in a country where it won’t be showing and I don’t have enough bandwidth to download it.

This is not sarcasm but a serious question

Ru: Where do you live anyway? I’m honestly curious.

Look my friend: My business partner of many years was a man named Gary Utter. He was a decorated veteran of Vietnam. He died earlier this year. He wrote a few articles and many comments on this site. He was once a member of “Vietnam Veterans Against The War,” and knew John Kerry personally.

He quit the group in disgust. He hated Kerry. He died earlier this year, and not long before his death he was emailing me regularly to tell me about how horrible Kerry was. He was no right-winger, no Republican.

Kerry was not just against the war. Kerry suggeste that the average Vietnam veteran was a war criminal. A rapist and a murderer.

Do you not understand what it is to accuse a man wrongly of being a rapist, a murderer, and a war criminal? What is so hard to understand about that?

8 Ru October 25, 2004 at 3:47 pm

I honestly didn’t know he’d said that.

Seems a bit extreme. I mean, i’m sure lots of shit things happened in Vietnam, on both sides, but you know people are people. There can be no way Kerry really believed that so either he was working for Political capital or he was mis quoted is there a link you can show me where I can read his comments.

BTW I’m from Ireland but I’m in Univesity in England at the Mo so i’m a little bit cut off from my usual news sources papers etc. I came in on the election a bit late too.
