Welcome to the Carnival of the Liberated, a sampler of some of the best posts of the week from Iraqi and Afghan bloggers. This week we’ve got donkeys and minarets, a difference of opinion on Afghanistan, the readiness of Iraq’s army to create order in Iraq, and much more.
A difference of opinion in Afghanistan. Afghan Warrior thinks that NATO should put more troops into Afghanistan. Sanjar thinks it should remove the troops that are there now. There’s one point on which I certainly agree with Sanjar: I certainly don’t see any way one can make a good argument that foreign troops in Iraq provoke opposition while foreign troops in Afghanistan don’t.
Baghdad Connect’s take on what’s going on in Iraq right now is definitely worth reading. Key to reading: “the invaders” = us; “Takfiris” = foreign Arab fighters in Iraq. Also, he’s, shall we say skeptical about Maliki’s claims. One picture is worth 1,000 words.
Last-of-Iraqis is skeptical about Maliki’s claim, too.
There’s an interesting nugget of information hidden in this post from Emotions…—internal migration from Anbar Province to other places in Iraq.
The one who brought the donkey up the minaret is the one who should bring it down.
Hammorabi comments on the new oil law.
The Shaqawa speculates on what would be likely to happen in Iraq following a near-term withdrawal by American forces. I think his assessment is about right but I’m not sure that pro-withdrawal folks in the U. S. care much.
Truth About Iraqis comments on the latest headlines from Iraq. Discouraging. Some things there you probably haven’t read in the stateside press.
Dave Schuler posts regularly to his own weblog, The Glittering Eye. The Carnival was originally conceived by Ryan Boots.

Well, of course the Sunnis don’t like Maliki’s statement, because the implication is the militias can “solve” the Sunni problem through ethnic cleansing. This is probably one reason why a large number of Sunni groups are trying to reconcile before the U.S. leaves.
