In comments to an earlier thread I noted there were some folks who would like to turn Denver ’08 into Chicago ’68. I say it, and it appears here

Oh yeah, that’s exactly what the Democratic Party, and the country as a whole, needs right now.

Much as I’d enjoy seeing the Democrats hoist by the petard of their fringe elements, I can’t see anything good coming of something like this.

I wouldn’t worry too much. In 2004 they arranged to have all “free speech” activity outside the convention center confined to a large cage surrounded by armed guards, and arresting anyone protesting outside the cage. I suspect they’ll arrange something similar this year.

Can I help recreate the part where the Chicago PD beats the livin’ patchouli oil out of hippies? I’ve been wanting to do that for years.

That should make the protesters happy…

It’d be bad for the country, but I wouldn’t put it past the Dems. When I worked on Clinton’s campaign in ’92 (my first vote of any kind) most of the people I worked with were exactly the kind of ideologically-blinded fools who would bring down a convention because they had a quibble over a minor policy point.

It’s why I stopped helping out on Dem campaigns. I stopped helping out on Repubs because they may be adults but they work ya to death.

Do they really want to recreate 68?

To quote newsbusters, protests, riots and a republican elected president?
