I don’t know if that’s so unreasonable. If you think about it, the idea of a sentient rabbit sneaking into your house at night and hiding eggs is pretty terrifying. Especially if you think about the idea of a male mammal laying eggs. Plastic eggs. Filled with sugary confections.
I think there’s definitely horror movie potential here.
I’ve got some little blue stars, if you’re in a flowery mood, and if not, I wandered out to the Mukilteo lighthouse at sunset today. Other than that, it’s been a nice quiet day.
There’s something to this, actually, but not quite to the extreme that the publisher seems to take it. If you’re raising your child a Christian, it’s probably a good idea to teach the whole story — including dying on the cross and resurrection. Without those elements, Easter nothing but Jesus having dinner with his friends, and the rabbit laying eggs in the house the next day.
That said, I see no reason why a 4-year-old should be treated to the all the gory details of the actual horror of crucifixion — either Jesus’ in particular or the practice in general.
Dean, if and when you read this, it may mean something more to you than to some of the newer folks around Dean’s World.
Triticale (Tom E Arnold), one of your old commenters, died of acute leukemia back on December 17. I saw his name posted on the Queen’s list of sites, logged in and thus learned of his passing.
Here’s what I posted to his family’s online guest book:
March 23, 2008
I knew him solely as “Triticale”, but for a long time on Dean’s World, an internet blogsite which he frequented. There, all of us had electronic discussions which sometimes ate up entire weeks. We got into one another’s lives in a way and on so broad a basis, that would have been inconceivable before the advent of this technology.
I understand that you folks are a relatively small family. I hope the joy of celebrating his life shall exceed the sadness of his passing.

Yeah, you probably missed it Arnold but I posted about it back when it happened. Triticale and I had talked on the phone and traded email from back in the earliest days of the blog. I miss him, he was a very funny guy.

Don’t know is this is PC thinking, or just plain stupidity. It is appalling that some people think that “Easter is too scary for preschoolers.”

If you want absolute, definitive, no-question-about-it proof tht the Cold War is over, take a look here.
If you’re in a more contemplative mood, wondering about the intersection of science and religion, Economist has something for you to ponder here.
And if you wonder how good an eye witness you might make, be sure to take a glance at this video clip from YouTube.
Maniakes,
Not sure if your kiddng, or didn’t look at the link. The article is not about the fantasy Easter, it is about the Gospel story of Easter.

Well it is pre-schoolers–i.e. not even in Kindergarten yet.
Just for grins I’m listening to Reverend Wrights church this morning. Just started so don’t know if he or another pastor will speak.
Steaming video

Sandi, I was kidding. I did follow the link but I didn’t have anything constructive to say about it.
