I think she does owe Petraeus an apology. She impugned his honor and integrity, and those things strike at the very heart of what it is to be a soldier. He isn't running for anything and shouldn't be subjected to the typical mudslinging that goes on in the political arena.

That said, an apology would be unwise politically, so I don't expect one, and I won't hold it against her if she doesn't give one. I do hold the original remark against her, however. Perhaps a private apology after the dust has settled be a good thing.

By the same token, McCain isn't showing any grace by asking for the apology. But it's fair game politically for him to call attention to it.

Now, this is a real issue. I don't think apologizing to General Petraeus is needed, but here's what I would ask Hillary:

1. General Petraeus orchestrated the surge in Iraq -- Did it work? Isn't Iraq much better off, since the surge?

2. You criticized General Petraeus, invoking the famous phrase a "willful suspension of disbelief"? Do you believe now? Weren't you proven wrong? Hasn't the strategy by General Petraeus been vindicated?

etc, etc, keep going along those lines.

Assuming she gets the nomination somehow, Senator Clinton will apologize approximately one week after the Convention. Until then, she needs the radical Left on her side. After that, they'll be a liability, and she'll need a Sister Souljah moment.

The incident made Hillary look terrible in two ways. Either she was just trying to score political points with the far left or she really believed Petreus was a liar. If the former is true she has no repect for the intelligence of the American people. If the latter, she has no respect for the integrity of the military.

I think her treatment of Petraeus was basically slimy pandering, and I expect no apology from her. That'd be like admitting she was wrong, and her base wouldn't tolerate being wrong on that count. Not before the general election, anyway

I disagree that an apology is owed here, and McCain asking for it, bowing to the 'apology cult' that seems to have become the substitute for any sort of actual moral values in our politicians makes me think less of him.
