The Modern Brokered Convention

Exactly as some of us predicted, it appears that the Democratic Party’s elders are working on having a closed Superdelegate convention before the public convention.

This is what brokered conventions will look like in the 21st century.

Man, they DO want to recreate 1968! Backroom dealings will drive the grievance crowd over the edge.

Heh, the only outcome better for Republicans than having 20% of the Democrats too angry to vote is to end up with 40% too angry to vote! Woohoo!!

I vote they nominate the algorentian one.

I think it’s clearly Obama’s game at this point barring some sort of massive implosion on his part. And that they’d be fools not to offer Hillary the Veep spot and she’d be a fool to refuse it.

Nah, Obama doesn’t want her as VP. Having Bill Clinton roaming around as Second Lady/Ambassador at Large, sublty undermining his administration? Not gonna happen.

Also, she wouldn’t take it either. You can put up with Bill and Monica and the ‘vast conspiracy’ if, and only if, at the end of the day, you get the golden ring of the presidency, the US Attorneys and the Generals of our great military. She’s already rich and famous — anything short of POTUS, in her mind, is a warm bucket of piss!

The first smoke-free smoke-filled room.

Hank: No one really wants to be Vice President, but rarely do they turn it down if it’s offered. If her goal is to be President, then being Vice President is a natural step to take, as it makes her the presumptive Democratic nominee in 2012 or 2016 and might just get her the Presidency before that.

As for the Obama people liking her: the campaign has been far less acrimonious than others. George H.W. Bush was brutally critical of Ronald Reagan but that didn’t stop him from becoming Reagan’s VP and eventually succeeding him to the Presidency. Also, Lyndon Johnson and John F. Kennedy pretty much hated each other’s guts, but that didn’t stop Johnson from taking the Veep slot and becoming President.
