You know, as a woman, I'm okay with doing more of the housework. Evil Rob has less stamina than I do (normally) and he gets more worn out by his work than I do by mine. And yet he pitches in. Who cares if it's an uneven distribution? Nitpicking about who does more doesn't sound like fun to me.

I grew up with my mother being the homemaker and my father the breadwinner. He never did much in the way of "housework" (as in, inside the home), but he gardened— fresh salad all summer long— and he helped us with our homework, and he worked very hard at all of the aspects of his life. Sure, he only cooked a few times a year (except for the salad), but what's more important? Complete task parity, or a good dad?

We have a chore schedule that includes everything from making dinner to doing laundry. We did our best to split things up as evenly as possible between the four of us.

My wife still does more than her share. In part because she isn't always happy with how the rest of us do it. ;)

But she works part time and I do the "heavy lifting" stuff around the house (in other words, when we get a foot of snow, I'm the one up at 5 am shoveling it while she's snoozing in bed). Frankly in terms of work and lost sleep, I'd trade a few more turns at the dishwasher for shoveling snow in the dark...

Put me in the category of not generally being in favor of equal division of labor. I think things always work best when you organize your houshold based on everyone's strengths and weaknesses. No two households are alike. I find these reports to be stupid and inane.

Hope I don't have to turn in my Man Card for this, because if I do I'll have to dig it out of the Wife's purse...

I'm the primary breadwinner and have been for all 17 years we've been together. I feed and clean up after all the animals (gerbs, guinea pig, fish, koi, dogs, cats). I do all the laundry. I'm the primary cook in our household, and I make the Kid's lunch everyday. I mow the lawn, and take care of all home maintenance issues.

Since the Kid became school-aged, I'm the one the who gets the call from school when he's sick. Oh, and when the Mother-in-Law has trouble with her house, I'm the guy who goes over to fix it.

But the Wife still does the majority of housecleaning. Why? Because I haven't managed to meet her standards of cleanliness. Which is fine; I think I make up for it in other ways.

But not according to this study. In the author's views I'm just a typical male who takes advantage of women.

Take advantage of this you f***ing morons...

I believe someone also noted that it does not include tasks such as home repair, yard work (mowing the lawn, trimming trees), painting and other such "Manly" chores as being " housework.

Which furthers the point that starting from the premise that only stereotypical "Women's" work is important, it isn't surprising that women do more. Next thing you know, someone will do a study saying that women get pregnant more than men do.
