Seems to me that his underlying analysis is correct: the economy is, by most "hard" metrics, quite healthy. As in earlier times, we'll work our way out of them but not before some segments of the population (e.g. those who bought into sub-prime mortgages) endure some significant pain. McCain recognizes the strengths and the weaknesses in our economy; he's in touch with the reality of the situation. Obama is accusing McCain of "spinning" a harsh reality by making up a fantasy of American strength. On reflection, though, not only is Obama lying about what McCain said, he is himself "spinning" by trying to redefine reality so that it consists *only* of the troubled minority.
