With assistance from both Brian Wallace and our friend Sandi, we are starting to see tweaks coming in. Currently, you should be seeing the following: a GUI editor for comments, a bigger window for commenting, and the ability to edit your own comments up to 15 minutes after you post. Also, front pagers should now be able to post YouTube videos and other HTML code.
What else would be on you guys’ wish list?
Also, I’m curious: do you think there’d be much interest in people being able to set up their own sub-blogs on Dean’s World? I’m only toying with the idea, mind you, but I’m curious if it would interest people.

Yes.Yes. Yes.
Finnaly. Thought that that since I first got here.
Sub-blogs wouldn’t be a bad idea. Ummm… oh, can front page posters edit/remove comments from their own threads? I’ve only had to do that with one person in all the time I’ve been here but it’s useful.

Hmm, this is already working for me….

Yes!
I’ve actually been dealing with the sub blogs issue at my new site (which I need to post about soon). The bottom line is that you need to be using WordPress MU which frankly is about three times more administrative work than plain WordPress. I initially had signups open but I got about 10-15 spam blog registrations **per day** so I had to close it down. I am going to offer them only upon request via email instead.
Dean I think you need to make sure you are fully comfortable with WordPress admin before you take on MU, unless you plan on relying on other people for the most part.

I see the new B/I/U, etc buttons. Thank you!! However, the "link/unlink" buttons don’t seem to do anything (don’t have anything to link right now), but the edit HTML does.
Speaking of links, I have the same problem I had before about them, i.e., not showing up after being clicked unless you cursor hover. This happens on the front page and in comments. I sent an email with screen examples to Naftali about a month ago or so. Any possibility of that being changed, or is it just me?
Also, while I’m writing this, I’ve noticed that the comment preview we had before no longer exists. Is that what we should use the HTML editor for?
I know–nag, nag, nag….. ;)
Thank you!
Maybe I should have been clearer: would there be any interest in having sub-blogs, if you had to pay a small amount? I’m thinking that if a few dozen people were willing to pony up about five bucks a month, that would more or less end the issue of finding funds to pay hosting fees…
How about I not come downstairs and blow ass in your face while you sleep for my portion?
Dean, what plug-in are you using for this editable blog comment form?
This is just a test:

This might be a “duh” to some, but you do need to have a link highlighted before the link button will work, but for some reason the whole url shows up and not the “title.”
And, there’s no adding any other links (unless manually) once submitted and trying to edit. Will try again later.
How about some way within each individual post to navigate to the previous and next posts? Either that, or have the comments in a popup window from the front page. This having to go back and forth from front page to post then back to the front page to click into the next post is annoying and slow (although I’m sure it helps with the number of page views). Basic usability is always more important than fancy bells and whistles…

Dean, my offer regarding hosting still stands. I have more than enough bandwidth headroom, 6 TB per month.

Um, Ok.
You folks make me feel dumb, but I would just like a spell check…
I’m loving the GUI editor and the bigger window, and the 15 minute opportunity for editing is very nice. I haven’t tried posting embedded video yet, but I’m glad to hear it works.
I probably wouldn’t use a seperate sub-blog here very much, but it sounds like lots of other people are interested.
Well, 1st on my wish list is getting my ad fixed. It’s OK on my end! I even copied it right from DW to highlight the problem, and the text copied with the spaces in. Go figure.
As for sub-blogs, heck yeah!
I’ll vote against sub-blogs. I like DW as it is, not as some sort of Daily Kos or other journal site.
I will not be bothered to jump down a level. If it’s not right for the front page, then it’s not worth my time.
If Dean intents, however, to form his own sort of Pajama’s Media, borging a lot of other blogs, then that might be different. But it still wouldn’t appeal to me much.
I think sub-blogs is a poor idea. It only makes more work for Dean.
If you want a blog you can get free server space (blogger). Or reliable server space for a small charge and various free blogging sofware packages.
I have 600 gigabytes of storage and a terrabyte of bandwidth for $10 a month that hosts 4 forums and 3 blogs without filling the bottom.
You can even get a free blog at WordPress.com. If you want you can even try to make it look like Dean’s in a true act of homage!
