This Is Interesting… If You Care

It seems Tom Cruise has tapped two writers from 24 to pen a new spy-thriller for him. I say it’s interesting because 24 tends to have a conservative bent to it and one of the two writers developed the comedy series The Half-Hour News Hour for Fox News. I’m wondering if this relationship will produce something with a conservative message on the big screen. It’s no secret that the past few years has seen numerious thrillers and war movies come out of Hollywood that bombed largely because of their liberal slant. Maybe Hollywood is figuring out that even if Americans don’t like the current political situation, they also don’t like seeing their nation, its leaders, and its soldiers smeared on the big screen.

And this is the first I’ve heard that Cruise tapped Battlestar Galatica‘s Ron Moore to write a sci-fi film trilogy. That could be interesting. Hollywood doesn’t usually go for the trilogy thing. It usually only looks at sequels if the first did well and it usually wants that first film to stand by itself. Unless, you know, you’re doing The Lord of the Rings and even that one was almost a single film.

OMG. I have only one word to say about the combination of narcissistic Scientologists and sci-fi – “Battlefield Earth”.

well, ok, it was two words

Heh.  Battlefield Earth did pop into my mind while I was writing that bit.  I’m pretty sure Ron Moore is smart enough to stay away from anything L. Ron Hubbard wrote.

Unless Cruise threw just insane amounts of cash at him.  Then, hell, I’d write it!
