I just learned that A&E is remaking The Andromeda Strain as a two-night miniseries.
I’m torn, because the original film and book are classics; and A&E’s last remake that I saw (The Lathe of Heaven) was a dog. Plus the previews make it sound like they changed the story to make it more paranoid. I’m just suspecting that once again, A&E "improved" something that was fine the way it was.
But it’s Ridley Freakin’ Scott. And Andre Freakin Braugher.
Congratulations, Jack Freakin’ Snyder. Pride of personal accomplishment is the sort of reward that nobody can take from you. No matter what anyone else ever says or does in the future, you’ll know: I played in the big leagues. And once you’re in the big leagues, you have a better chance of getting there again and staying there for a while.
How do you feel about ads that you didn’t authorize on your blog, and you don’t share in the revenue? Some internet providers are doing just that.
They track their customers surfing habits and insert ads into the data stream and the ad appears to be on your blog in the readers browser (visit a lawn care site today, see ads for lawn mowers tomorrow).
One ISP is already doing it, and Charter Communications (my ISP) is starting it. I am livid about this, not because I don’t want to see the ads, I have and excellent blocker. I’m livid because I don’t want my readers on my blogs or forums pissed at me for spamming their browsers.
But there is a cure. A team at the University of Washington in Vancouver has developed a Web Tripwire Toolkit. A bit of code and the reader is warned that the content has been tampered with, plus the site administrator can be updated via email of the shenanigans.
Sandi, I’m not doubting the veracity of your post re the Web Tripwire Tookit, but there’s a (satellite?) U-Dub campus in Vancouver?! I’ve been here 8 years (+ another 8 across the River) and never knew. There is a new, pretty small Wazzu campus at Salmon Creek…..

Not keen on that at all. When I was running the ITPAA I couldn’t use Google adwords because it would insert ads from offshoring and outsourcing companies – the very outfits my organization was fighting. Imagine Republican party blogs showing advertisements for Obama – or vice versa, simply because the ad promoter doesn’t recognize the topic of discussion.

First!
If you’re in the Greenville-Spartanburg area of South Carolina and you’d like to hang out with geeks and talk UML, I’ll be there Tuesday.

My film, Ghost Image, is at the Cannes Film Market which runs concurrent with the festival.
I’m not Ridley Freakin Scott or Andre Freakin Braugher but it’s quite the rush to see my name in their database:

Hey I’ve known Jack Freakin’ Snyder since I was 16 and played freakin’ D&D at his freakin’ comic book shop. That was 25 freakin’ years ago.
Holy cr@p I feel old now…
But congratulations all the same Jack!
Now that Gaeta’s got his leg off, maybe he can retire and find a nice boy to settle down with. LOL
BSG kinda slows down the Friday OT’s, I think.
Martin and Scott,
Thanks for the kudos! My producer and I, and everyone else involved with the film are very excited!
Scott,
25 freakin’ years! Wow! It’s actually 26, but we don’t need to think about that! ;)

It should work well and keep the site blame free for adds, but it’s too much to post in comments. See my lengthly post on it earlier today.
We’ve finally gotten a few consecutive days of nice weather here, and my gardens are in full swing! Plus there’s purple…
