McCain’s Veep Choices

An interesting look at whom the Senator is considering.

Almost as interesting to me is who’s not on that list as much as who is.

I like Bobby Jindal. I like his background and the fact that it would bring recognition to one of America’s most important ethnic groups: Indian-Americans.

But how does it help McCain? Thinking of the electoral college that would mean Christi from Florida; Romney’s conservative credentials would help solidify the party base, but the Veep slot is a strategic decision – not an emotional one.

That’s why I expect Obama to go with my senator Joe Biden or my favorite Democrat in office, Jim Webb. Both these guys add the "g" word: gravitas to Obama’s flyweight background.

Who would help McCain the most? A Republican from Ohio, Illinois, New York or VA.

1) Charlie Crist.

Winning Florida is more significant than winning the Indians, who are scattered around the country.

The Mormons will vote for McCain with or without pretty boy.

The odd thing is that both the Democrat and the Republican are strongly tempted to choose running mates to appease a fraction of their party’s base rather than to help "balance" the ticket.

That said, I think Crist is a very good choice, but only if the Evangelicals like him.

BTW, Scott, I completely agree. I like Bobby Jindal a lot but there’s just no way he’s ready to be President, which should be the first and foremost question with any VP candidate.
