Michigan and Florida Delegates Each Get Half

A compromise is reached.

I frankly don’t think that any result at all is “fair,” so it’s six of one and half a dozen of the other. In any case, now the war for the superdelegates heads toward its final battle, and Obama’s got the advantage.

Even the slaves counted for 3/5′s a person.
Looks like we’re definitely going to see "Selected Not Elected" Obama as the candidate of the "Every Vote Counts" Democratic party.

chad,

iirc, the half-count was the initial punishment michigan and florida were threatened with for moving up their primaries without the blessing of the dnc.  i don’t see where michigan and florida are entitled to seat their entire delegation to begin with.  if michigan and florida democrats are upset about it, they have their own state party apparatus to blame, not Obama or Clinton.

and then where do you come up with Selected not Elected? first and foremost, the election doesn’t happen until november.  and secondly, obama is still ahead in the delegate (not superdelegate) count.  isn’t that "elected"?

Slaves didn’t really count as 3/5ths of a person–the reality was both better and worse than that in various ways–but I guess the argument applies from a hyperbolic standpoint.

Still, the party rules were known when MI and FL went ahead anyway. On the flip side, that’s not voters’ fault.

Honestly, there is no "fair" solution here so I have a hard time going against any decision. I’d just think they’d be foolish to completely lock those states’ delegates out.

Another Democrat who has discussed strategy with friends in the Obama inner circle said that Mr Obama was openly considering asking Mrs Clinton to join his cabinet, alongside two other former presidential rivals: John Edwards, who is seen as a likely attorney general; and Joe Biden, who is a leading contender to become Secretary of State.

I have no words.

It seems quite intelligent to me, but I can’t imagine what cabinet post she’d really want besides Secretary of State or Vice President.

Secretary of State gives her a huge shot at making history as it’s the most high-visibility cabinet post, but probably means she quits electoral politics. Vice President would mean she still has an eye on the Presidency.

Why foolish? Those were the rules in place at the time, and everyone knew it.

Because it would piss off voters in those two states. Most particularly Michigan, which is pissed off in general these days.

In fact, I predict that they’ll restore those delegates to full strength one way or the other, probably after Obama has secured the nomination and rendered the question moot.
