The Compliment Vice Pays To Virtue

Glenn links this PJM piece by Abe Greenwald (he’s the sockless Greenwald) about the progress Iraqis have made on the benchmarks set out by the U.S. Congress, which entree includes a parenthetical too delicious in its irony to let it pass by untasted:

(Consider 18, for example: “Ensuring that Iraq’s political authorities are not undermining or making false accusations against members of the Iraqi Security Forces.” Can we even say with confidence that America’s political authorities are not making false accusations against our own armed forces?)

Oh indeed.  Indeed.  False accusations? Not hard to find.

A  federal judge has ordered Rep. Jack Murtha (D-Pa.) to testify in a defamation case related to the [alleged] deaths of Iraqi civilians in the town of Haditha in 2005, according to the Associated Press.   Murtha, a former Marine. accused Marines of ”cold-blooded murder and war crimes” during the Haditha incident.

Undermining?

”The surge has failed.” –  Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid

“I think that the reports that you provide to us really require the willing suspension of disbelief.” –  Senator Hillary Clinton

I can’t help but revel in the absurdity of our Congress holding the Iraqi legislature, barely yet a year old, to a standard they themselves utterly fail to meet.

It’s all about painting others as failures, even if they’re not.

Don’t let reality get in the way of The Narrative(tm).
