Let’s hope this trend continues:
WASHINGTON — Roadside bomb attacks and fatalities in Iraq are down by almost 90% over the last year, according to Pentagon records and interviews with military leaders.
In May, 11 U.S. troops were killed by blasts from improvised explosive devices (IEDs) compared with 92 in May 2007, records show. That’s an 88% decrease.
To steal a phrase, that seems like good news.

Dave, you’re not seeing how this is a bad thing. You don’t see the real reason the numbers are lower. They’re lower because we’re losing this war. Because deaths were so historically high in the recent past, there are fewer soldiers now to be killed by IEDs.
I suppose you think it’s a good thing dodo deaths are at all all-time low as well.
Wheeeee! Spinning is fun!
In other news, my informants (who, believe me, have to remain anonymous) tell me that there’s a new trend for suicide bombers in Afghanistan. They’re now jumping off roofs onto trucks, convoys and groups of soldiers — giving the term “smart bomb” a new (if somewhat ambiguous) meaning.
Like all technological advances, the Japanese beat everyone to it.
