Kosovo, Ten Years Later

Michael Totten reports:

“Americans are our best friends in the world. UK is second.”

“Thank you,” I said. “We appreciate that. Some people don’t like us.”

“Bad people,” he said.

That about says it all.

The liberation of Kosovo was Bill Clinton’s greatest triumph and should be his legacy, at least as far as the Kosovars are concerned.

Clinton’s Balkan interventions, widely derided at the time by the "realist" crowd as arrogant, foolish, putting us in the middle of an irrational region permanently torn by ethnic and religious strife, were some of the greatest foreign policy triumphs of American history. His entire administration should be proud, as should all Americans.

I was opposed to Clinton’s Balkans interventions at the time (opposed to the tactics, not the mission), on the grounds that we were doing enough to cause trouble but not enough to actually do any good. I’m glad I was wrong.

I am glad it turned out well even if the UN did not give its approval.

Wait, it can’t have been legitimate if it lacked UN approval, can it?!?!?

Here’s hoping you picked up on my sarcasm.

Screw the UN and those that worship at its altar : )
