Obama scores the hat trick.
He said the country can’t afford more of the same and expects different results.
“That’s a definition of madness, but that’s what John McCain is offering. He’s offering Bush economic policies
…
“They’re going to say I’m a risky guy,” Obama said. “What they’re going to argue is I’m too risky. The real risk is that we miss the moment, that we do not do what’s needed because we’re afraid.”
It’s astonishing how readily socialism can be repackaged as populism just by using some loftily vacuous rhetoric. Every time there’s an economic hiccup, we hear some new narrative explaining how we need higher taxes and more government intervention. Make no mistake: fear is exactly what Barack Obama is selling here. If you aren’t afraid, you might listen to economists, who will drone on about boring, unhopeful, nonaudacious concepts like private market efficiency, cumulative productivity gains, and long-term growth through the creative destruction of inefficient competitors.
Democrat Barack Obama, the first black candidate with a shot at winning the White House, says John McCain and his Republican allies will try to scare them by saying Obama “doesn’t look like all those other presidents on the dollar bills.”
“My opponents are racists!” Ugh, that didn’t take long. Explain to me again how this guy is different than Jesse Jackson? What happened to being “the postracial candidate?”
And finally, this is just so completely dishonest it’s breathtaking (audacious, even):
Obama also compared himself to western legend Wild Bill Hickok, who he said had fought a duel in Springfield.
“I’m ready to duel John McCain on taxes right here, quick draw,” Obama said…
Yeah, great sound bite. Barry the Gunslinger, afraid of nothing, rarin’ to get into the fight. The reality is… well, the McCain camp puts it nicely:
“If Barack Obama wants this so-called duel then why did he and his entourage run for the hills when John McCain challenged him to 10 town halls?” McCain spokesman Tucker Bounds said.
UPDATE: Sheesh, did Obama also endorse reparations?
