I’m taking my first certification exam in almost ten years next week. Security+ from CompTIA. Wish me luck, I’m told it’s their toughest exam.

God bless Jennifer Granholm!

Here’s to hoping you do well!  At least with the Security+ you find out right away how you did. I took my CISSP earlier this year and passed, although it took a few weeks before I got the results (you take the test on scantron sheets!!!)

Good luck, Dean!

Several years back I took a certification test.  Mostly for the fun of it because it certainly didn’t get me anything I don’t already have.  I was the oldest person taking the test by, perhaps, ten years.  Ages ranged from the early twenties to, well, me.

The test had two components:  a written and a practicum.  I did okay on the written.  Got most right, some wrong.

I aced the practicum.  That was where the difference in experience paid off.  Some of the younger test takers were actually crying during the practicum.  Some of the oldsters were swearing but all kept their cool and plowed through.

Dean:

Good luck, I know about that certification, and I know it’s a tough one to get. Having one will definitely improve your marketability.

I have their Project+ certification (it’s kind of PMP lite). I found that test pretty easy. Good luck!

Good luck.

My last one was the Oracle PL/SQL exam.

Remember, the tougher the cert, the more it’s worth.

God bless Jennifer Granholm?  I’d say it’s the least she could have done for helping make Michigan such a business-hostile state!

Yes, thank you Jenny, for driving all the jobs out of the state, and letting the jobs that remain be unrealistically picky about whom they will hire next because of the over-qualified candidate pool that exists now.

When you pretty much need a Masters degree to work help desk, something is very wrong.

God bless Jennifer Granholm?  Talk about being grateful for scraps from the master’s table…

I have a hard time blaming the Governor for the job situation; Michigan’s economy has been dependent on the auto industry forever and when that industry’s in trouble the whole state’s in trouble. There’s only so much any governor can do about that. One thing a Governor can do is try to encourage the state to be less dependent upon that one industry, and that she’s done. I think that’s commendable.

Good luck Dean.  I’m studying for a certification myself (not in tech) and best case scenario is I am done in June 2010, so I know how challenging these can be.

At least you won’t be weighted down in school loans when you are through though!

And as somone alluded to up thread, if it was easy, everyone would do it, and it wouldn’t have any value.

She’s done that!?  Are you insane?  Did she do that when she raised minimum wage and put more small businesses out of work?  Did she do that with tax hikes on large corporations, driving them out of the state?

Michigan is one of the most business hostile states in the country.  It ranks with New York and California in the regard.

Drink her Kool-Aid if you want, she’s a pox upon the state and, whether you want to see it or not, she’s making it harder for you to find a job that’ll pay you what you’re worth.

Good Luck my dear one ;-)

We were losing jobs before Granholm even took office. Yes, she raised the minimum wage, but what’s the evidence that that put a ton of small businesses out of work? Most places pay more than the minimum wage anyway.

I also notice that for two states that are supposedly business-hostile, both California and New York have awfully vigorous economies.

Anyway, I’m not drinking any Kool-Aid, whether it’s Democratic (support Granholm) or Republican (hate Granholm). I think she’s basically done a fine job with what she had to deal with, and the No Worker Left Behind program is, in my view, quite intelligent.
