Joe Klein reviles the GOP’s negative attack ads against Obama, but appears to suffer from selective memory loss:
(Obama has tried to strike back, but creative personal attacks just seem foreign to the Democrats’ DNA.)
Uh, really? The release of a 30-year-old DUI 48 hours before the 2000 election? The publication, on national TV, of forged Guard documents claiming W shirked his duty? The repeated attacks that Bush “dodged” Vietnam when in fact he was doing F-102 fighter pilot duty that was equally dangerous? The constant refrain through the 1980s that Reagan was dumb, promptly picked up again for Bush Jr. in 2000? And in this campaign, Dems have insinuated McCain is too old and rich to understand people’s problems. All of this apparently somehow escapes Klein’s notice.
He also refers to Rush Limbaugh as “destructive,” McCain’s criticism of Obama’s  willingess to lose the Iraq War as “filthy,” and throws around the terms “sleazeball,” “attack dog,” and “congenitally dark” — all this in a column that decries negativity.
Has Joe Klein always been this blindly ideological and rabidly partisan, or am I just now noticing?

You’re just now noticing.  Although this article is a bit less covert than many. Â
I think we are in the midst of a trend where it’s now considered OK (or maybe even hip) for supposedly unbiased journalists to come out of the closet, and be open and even flagrant with their political orientations.
You are just now noticing. And Joe Klein is not nearly the worst.
I can go back to the 80s and find the same stuff, and piles of it. The claims that Reagan was going to starve homeless people to death, force senior citizens to eat dog food and declare war on the Soviet Union just to satisfy his evil nature were commonplace. As well as the claims that he was stupid, uncultured and a racist.
These people only have one script, the only thing they vary is the volume.

Heh, I got a kick out of the story I read that when Democrat speakers went up on stage, big cheers would come out of the reporters only areas.

Anyone who still can’t see that the MSM is totally in the tank for Democrats in general and Obama in particular is simply not worth debating. It’s like trying to use astronomy to debate a flat earther, they simply don’t care about facts or reality. The mythology suits them better.

Dear Dean,
I first heard the refrain in 1952. My father told me it started in 1932. "The President’s a dummy and the Attorney General is a crook". The "progressives" are using a 1932 hymnal.
Regards,
Roy

It’s like trying to use astronomy to debate a flat earther or a creationist; they simply don’t care about facts or reality. The mythology suits them better.
That statement edited makes just as much sense. Which Mainstream Media are you referring to? the one that has O’ Reilly, Coulter and Hannity? The one that Dennis Miller does his shows on? How about radio? Yeah cause there’s like a million liberal radio shows like NPR and Air America, and NPR…. and NPR. The rest of it’s all conservative stuff. "The Liberal media"/"Conservative dominated" media arguement is just a cop out so we can avoid talking about why our chosen candidtate for the party we are loyal to sucks.
