Like a lot of people I assumed Tina Fey would do a great Sarah Palin impersonation, but she’s just plain stunning in this skit. Amy Poehler is also funny as Hillary Clinton, as usual. But Fey not only looks and gestures exactly like the Governor, she frickin’ sounds exactly like her, with even that snow belt accent down nearly perfect (only a bit exaggerated).
“I can see Russia from my house!” Heh.
Anyway, I can’t find any source that will let me embed the video, because the copies on YouTube have already been taken down and the official NBC site doesn’t seem to want to allow embedding. But you can get it here at Huffington Post.
*Update:* Ah, here it is:
Thanks Sandi! By the way, does anyone know what that weird arm gesture Tina Fey uses about two thirds in there is supposed to be? Is it an air guitar?

That was such an awesome skit. Late night comedy really always has their finger on the pulse of election campaigns. I love it this time of year (too bad I don’t get to watch it much).
You can get it from Hulu.com
Click on the video and it opens a page in a new window with a larger version of the clip. The embed shown is below the clip.
i thought it was her cocking a rifle.
i thought it was her cocking a rifle.
That was exactly what I thought. Cocking her moose gun.
I am pretty sure it was her rifle pose.
I thought this was a pretty funny skit. I think they skewered both Palin and Hillary pretty well. Of course I think they were more unfair to Palin, but if I were a Hillary fan, I’d probably think the reverse. So it was probably pretty fair either way.

Hah! Loved it –very funny. Tina Fey reminds of a sultry version of the Church Lady!

That’s strange CC, because I’m about as big a Palin supporter as you can get right now, and I thought Sarah came through that looking a lot better than Hillary.
Some of the conservative blogs are saying it wasn’t funny, but I thought it was high on laughs and low on the wince factor. Maybe I don’t take my politics too seriously lately so it didn’t affect me as much.

Black Republican:
I can see that.
Here’s how I interpret this.
They portrayed Palin as sort of a dumb hick who doesn’t know anything about politics, but poses in sexy ways and bats her eyelashes at the camera.
They portrayed Hillary as a hyper ambitious policy wonk embittered by her being OFF the ticket while the dumb good-looking hick was ON the ticket.
I guess you could say that makes Hillary look bad, and sure, nobody likes hyper-ambitious people.
But for me, I’d prefer being portrayed as hyper-ambitious and embittered over being portrayed as a brunette version of a dumb blonde, providing eye-candy for the ticket but little else.
Just my take.

I quit looking to SNL for decent comedy years ago.  I will say that I thought, within the confines of the liberal misunderstanding of virtually everything Palin has said, this was one of the better skits in recent times.  Disclosure:  I don’t watch SNL much anymore, so I may have not seen some other decent skits lately.
I thought Tina Fey made a great Sarah Palin. I like Palin, and I didn’t take offence at any of this – lampooning of political figures is a time honoured tradition in Western democracies, and a badge of honour for pols. No-one should be too precious to be sent up in this manner.
Incidentally, I think the "air guitar" gesture is a reference to the photo-shopped "Sarah-in-bikini-with-AK47" shot that’s been doing the rounds.
I think you guys are all correct that it’s a gun cocking motion. Especially now that I googled and looked at that fake photoshopped bikini pic. Believe it or not I hadn’t seen that, but now it makes sense; Fey even mentions it obliquely.
