ABC’s Jake Tapper notices what Drudge and righty blogs have been talking about the past few days: that Obama ad that makes fun of McCain’s lack of computer savvy is mocking a condition caused by his injuries sustained as POW:
Assuredly McCain isn’t comfortable talking about this — and the McCain campaign discouraged me from writing about this — but the reason the aged Arizonan doesn’t use a computer or send email is because of his war wounds.
Did Obama intend to mock a war veteran’s pain, incurred in service to his country? That seems unlikely, but this was certainly poorly researched, as McCain’s difficulty typing was public knowledge, and a simple Google would have provided ample warning. Ironically, it’s the Obama campaign itself that seems computer illiterate in this episode.
As for the bigger picture, Obama supporters have to be worried that the campaign is proving incredibly gaffe-prone. Who thought putting “lipstick on a pig” into a speech a day or so after Palin’s famous “lipstick” self-reference was a good idea? That was obviously going to be perceived as sexist and demeaning. And that disparaging reference to people in small towns clinging to their guns and religion out of bitterness is still paying dividends for McCain.
The Obama campaign has somehow ended up behind McCain despite numerous advantages. The media may still be able to pull this out for him, but they seem to be throwing away what remains of their credibility in the attempt.

John McCain has problems raising his hands above his shoulders and tying his own shoes.
Barack Obama clearly has no problem inserting his foot into his mouth.
Flexibility!
"Senator Obama, I envy your flexibility, but I have to ask, would you like some salt with that?"
