I saw him either in high-school (class of ’73) or in the Navy (74-80) on Saturday Night Live & picked up a couple of LPs. Every once in a while I hear pieces from concerts or commericals. He has never managed to break through in a big way, but he has managed to have a long vigorous career.
The music is (IMHO) technically crisp, interesting, and engaging. I’ve always liked music that bridges time (does anyone remember Shakey’s Pizza Parlor and the sing-along perfmrances?), and I think he updates some very old blues while remaining true to the original. My only complaint, if you don’t have a reasonably good sound system the bass doesn’t come through very well.
I’d say he’s been very successful at doing exactly what he wants to do. I don’t think he’ll ever be a pop idol and I’m pretty sure he doesn’t want to be. ;-)

Woah, I like him :-) That is some fine talent. I don’t think I have ever heard of him until now. I put him in my Pandora music choices :-)
Somebody I love told me about Pandora ;-)
He’s been around for something like 35 years. He even did a series of Budweiser commercials, back in the ’80s I think.
