Biden Chuckle

I’m beginning to think that those who say Senator Biden has a problem with foot-in-mouth disease have a point. This certainly gave me a big chuckle, anyway.

I must also admit to a little schadenfreude: after 8 years of watching President Bush (a man I am proud to say I both campaigned for and voted for twice) portrayed as a gibbering idiot, this sort of stuff does make me smile. Even though I’ve always liked the Senator and think he’s pretty much a good guy (my conservative friends’ opinion to the contrary notwithstanding).

*Update*: This mitzvah by former President Clinton made me chuckle too. Yeah, all those Jewish voters in Nevada and Ohio and Pennsylvania will really be upset if you go there during the High Holidays, Mr. President. I’m glad your commitment to Senator Obama’s campaign is so…. thoughtful.

I laughed at that, too.  If Bush had said it, he would be a giant idiot.  If McCain had said it, he would be labeled senile and completely out of touch.

It’s like when Obama talked about visiting 57 states – Biden will be given a pass.

If you read Biden’s entire paragraph, it’s even more Bush-like:

"Part of what being a leader does is to instill confidence is to demonstrate what he or she knows what they are talking about and to communicating to people … this is how we can fix this," Biden said. "When the stock market crashed, Franklin Roosevelt got on the television and didn’t just talk about the princes of greed. He said, ‘look, here’s what happened.’"

Biden is so much more gaffe-prone than GW Bush that it’s not remotely fair to call his daily blunders "Bush like." It is much more fair to call Bush "Biden-like" when he does it.

BTW Dean, I stand fully vindicated in my initial assertion that Joe Biden was going to be a gaffe-machine on the campaign trail. He has even exceeded my high expectations. It’s astonishing what an empty-headed blowhard this man is. I mean it is truly astonishing. How did such a verbally challenged person ever get elected?

Oh yeah, he stole OTHER people’s speeches.

Probably a good move, considering.

To test this theory, we will have to see if someone can come up with a "Make the Pie Higher" in a shorter number of years than it took to make the original. I wonder how Democrats feel now that they have their very own Quayle.
