50/50

They’re telling us Mom’s odds are about 50/50, and much of it depends on her will to live.

She’s been unconscious for four days.

They needed my permission to give her a unit of blood this morning because her hemoglobin is too low.

Just thought I’d let you all know.

Still praying for her, and you.

If you need to talk get a hold of me.

Prayers are with you all.

At least you’re not stuck in an unfamiliar place doing all this.

In my thoughts still, both of you.  Hang in there.

Prayers for your Mom, and don’t forget to take care of yourself too…

I grew to like Mary Janelle over the years, in this weird sort of long distance relations the whole lot of us maintain via blogsites such as Dean’s World. And not at all because she’s your mother. Accordingly, I made a conscious effort to understand her. And I think she worked to do the same with all of us. So here we are. A bunch of 20th century people trying our best to come to grips with the different and rapidly shifting realities of the 21st.

You know I’m not a prayerful kind of guy. But I honestly hope she survives this hospital ordeal. Which is maybe the same sort of thought and action.

Meantime, as somebody wrote in one of these comments, take care of yourself as well.

Thanks so much for the update Dean. I’ve been worrying all weekend.

And I’ve got to “ditto’ just about everything Arnold said.  I thought your mother was great for a couple years before I figured out she was actually your mother.

But to deviate from Arnold’s approach a bit, I’ve gone beyond just thinking, and moved on to actual praying.  That’s hard for me!

And if it really does come down to her will to live, from what I have learned here, from her and from you, then it’s not 50/50, it’s more like 100/0.

Hang in there!

Ugh. What a terrible experience. Good luck Dean and to your mother.

I haven’t spoken to you in a while Dean but I still check the blogs for an idea of how you are doing.  Please take care of yourself,  you and mom are in my prayers!!

I only knew MJ through this blog (like Arnold and jaymaster, I thought she was a great person before I knew she was your mom). She loves life and she’s beloved by the people she meets. That guarantees better odds than 50/50

Dean, I’m continuing to hold your Mom, and you, in my prayers.

I’m not usually one for praying, but I just said a prayer for her.
