I'm not -too- worried about the Fairness Doctrine, although it is, like the disastrous McCain-Feingold, a terrible idea. I honestly think that, while it's a bad idea, conservatives can very much use it to their favor, and frankly, if "liberals" overplay their hand with it they'll get spanked in the long run anyway.

Just like "conservatives" are probably getting a well-deserved spanking tonight (probably).

It's not just the "fairness doctrine" that we need to be worried about. There is a lot of cavalier disregard of civil liberties on the part of the Dem leadership, including specifically the abolition of the secret ballot in union elections. See <a href="It%27s%20not%20just%20the" rel="nofollow"></a><a href="http://chicagoboyz.net/archives/6401.html#more-6401" rel="nofollow">"patriotic Germans are proud to show how they vote"</a>

I don't think there will be political trials.Â

Short of an actual coup d'etat, any politician who does that to his predecessor not only severely undermines confidence in the system, but sets himself up big time for eight, or four, years hence.

Interesting political theater:

First act as President, Obama Pardons bush administration officials. Everyone will (does?) think they were guilty. But then, there is not the oppurtunity / temptation for the House / Senate to grandstand and bring the fledgling Obama administration down into the mire.

I am equally concerned about the potential for Democrats to bring criminal charges against the Bush administration, a scenario I think is actually MORE threatening to the core principles of our republic even than the "Fairness Doctrine." We've done the Fairness Doctrine before and survived, we have not yet thrown our previous political leaders into prison based on trumped up, politically motivated show trials.

And keep an eye on what Obama's regime does to education too.

One of the first real test's of whether Obama is truly a "transformative" politician who will heal rather then exacerbate the political rancor is whether he will allow the spittle-flying moonbats in the House and Senate to use the system to exact revenge on their political enemies. If he can avoid that temptation and truly does take the wise path, then I'll breathe a heavy sigh of relief.

Until then I'm going to remain seriously concerned about this country's future.
