Motrin Blogswarm

It looks like the makers of Motrin got themselves in trouble this weekend.

To be honest, it looks like an overraction to me. But it also points to the fact that a lot of companies that market to consumers still don’t really “get” the internet. They probably could have defused this anger response by mad mommies a lot quicker but they’re still working on a Monday-Friday 9-to-5 schedule.

Still, is it just me or were these folks just a little too mad at a silly ad?

Creatively speaking the idea is good: target moms who wear slings.

But when executed someone had a huge brain fart in terms of copy and tone of the ad.  That is where it pissed people off basically b/c it accuses sling moms of trying to look like moms.  It undermines their beliefs.

The same idea could’ve been executed without offending anyone, if only by deleting some text, tweaking some other and having the v/o be less cynical.

Sometimes babies like to be carried around. Sometimes they like to  be given a little bit of space to explore the world,  and sometimes they like to roll around in a stroller.

Babies get bored by being carried around all the time with no intellectual stimulation, and they get scared if they’re not comforted when they’re tired or cold.

How one transports a baby should be a flexible, changeable thing, not a form of dogma. I don’t understand why moms would have ‘beliefs’ about baby transportation, and why they would organize protests about it.

Just a thought … wonder how many of those upset Mommies are still a little … hormonal?

Maybe I’m in a silly mood, but that strikes me as an awesome character name for an old-moneyed aristocrat type along the lines of  Thurston Howell.

“Mmmm, yes.  Pleased to meet you.  My name is Motrin Blogswarm.  Of the Main Line Blogswarms, of course.  Motrin Blogswarm the Third, actually…..”

Yeah I get it, you help with back pain. Does Motrin also help with a pain in the neck?
