I’ve been saving that title for almost two years. I thought it would be in context of president Hillary, but hey this is even better.

I think Senator McCain would have been his most brilliant choice, and I would be willing to wager heavily that he considered it (and heck, he may have even offered it and been turned down, we won’t know for many years if so). Having said that, this is very nearly as brilliant a move.

I don’t know if I agree with you that she’s "supremely" qualified, but she IS qualified, and will bring a LOT to the table. We’ll see how well she works as an administrator, but as a diplomat she’ll probably be spectacular.

I finally understand, "change" means return to the Clinton years.

I finally understand, "change" means return to the Clinton years.

considering that most senior politicians on the Democratic side cut their teeth in the Clinton era, pretty much everyone Obama might appoint with any experience at all is going to have some ties to the Clinton admin. Obama just announced his AG, for example – same thing. You can snark about it but its actually not that surprising, and the real difference is the team of rivals approach Obama is taking, which alreayd guarantees that things iwll be different.

Hillary earned her spot here on HER merits, though, not her husband’s.

A few points.

The possibility of Obama seriously thinking of appointing McCain as SoS is as likely as McCain thinking of appointing Obama.

"considering that most senior politicians on the Democratic side cut their teeth in the Clinton era, pretty much everyone Obama might appoint with any experience at all is going to have some ties to the Clinton admin"

Ok, so what you’re saying is that it was to be assumed that almost everyone Obama would appoint would have a connection to the Clinton administration. I can tell you that if Obama said this during the primaries he would look like a fool.

The only logic I see in this move is tying Hillary’s future political ambition to Obama’s succes as a president.

No, he’s right. Most senior Democrats with experience will be people who worked in some capacity with the Clinton administration. That’s just a given. There’s nothing wrong with it. Who else with experience is he going to get, people who worked for Jimmy Carter or Lyndon Johnson?

There’s not a damned thing wrong with hiring people with Beltway experience. Criticizing this is like the people who criticized George W. Bush for hiring people who’d worked for his dad’s administration, or Reagan’s. Yeah, duh, you want people with experience so you’re gonna pick who exactly? People who worked for the Truman administration or what?

Of course there will be old Clinton hands in his White House. That’s not a sin.

A big part of the Obama campaign was premised on not emphasizing experience just for the sake of experience. He made it a point to distance himself not only from how Bush has governed, but also Clinton.

Clearly he will need some people there with experience, but its a big leap going from those who worked for the Clinton administration to Hillary Clinton.

In any case, the US has the largest pool of talent in the world. There’s plenty of people out there unassociated with the Clintons that can be tapped for key posts.

Speaking of bottom politics it turns out we (meaning you guys) have the biggest first lady ass in white house history.
