How to Embed?

I can see from J. A. Eddy’s post below that I’m not the only associate here at Dean’s World who’s having problems embedding YouTube videos.  I’ve tried going into “Code” mode and pasting the code from YouTube.   That doesn’t work.  There doesn’t seem to be an icon for it on the editor.

Dean does it pretty frequently so it must be possible.  How do we embed YouTube videos here?

The best way to post on WordPress sites is to use Windows Live Writer.
Posting an embedded youtube video is as simple as pasting the entire URL of the page into the post where you want it.
It handles uploading and embedding images also.
It’s simply the best interface for blogging I’ve seen yet.

If you use the WordPress Post Editor your probably in the Visual mode. All you have to do is be sure you are in the HTML mode before you paste the code.

If the Visual tab is highlighted click the HTML tab and paste the YouTube embed code.

After experimenting on other wordpress blogs, I think it’s a permissions level problem. I can only post video on blogs where I have full admin rights. If I’m merely a contributor, I can go through the same steps that worked on the same blog when I had admin rights, and the video just doesn’t show up.

That makes the most sense to me, Eric.  This isn’t a case of not knowing how to do it–I do it on my own blog all the time.  It isn’t a case of not knowing the difference between visual and code mode, either.

It’s a case of not being able to embed videos in the !@#$% posts.

I just bumped both you guys’ privs up to "Editor." Let me know if that fixes it.

It’s working for me now, provided I enter [youtube:url] in the visual editor rather than pasting the embed code in the html editor.

Thanks, Dean!

Thanks, Dean.

Now I can finish those posts I was working on.

Shoulda gone with Movable Type.  :-)  But then I have never liked how WordPress, blatantly changes my code.

I prefer open source for a number of reasons–the biggest being, I don’t want to ever get trapped in proprietary software again.

Now please tell me how I, a lowly commenter and not an editor or any of that highfallutin’ stuff, can post a PDF as a comment. I’m running for the town board of supervisors around here in the coming spring 2009 local elections, and I thought I would show you all a PDF of my campaign flier.
