What will Gaeta do?

in battlestar galactica

I just finished the Galactica webisodes starring Gaeta and I am more convinced than ever that he’s the Final Cylon. What will he do, indeed?

This friday can’t come soon enough.

Heh. I just watched ‘em all too. Reluctantly, I was pulled in. My only big reactions were, "Gaeta’s gay?" and then "Gaeta’s bi?" But slowly I found myself sucked back in and looking forward to Friday night, so I guess they did the trick.

I think it’s Adama.  2 not-entirely logical reasons:

1) Bulldog.  Remember him, the guy who Adama sent on a deep recon mission between the wars and was released by the cylons for no real reason?  There has to be something deeper to that.

2) He discovered that bio-experiment facility during the first war, back when he was a viper pilot.  Perfect opportunity for him to be copied, programmed, and released.  The armistice was signed at that exact moment.  Coincidence?  And this explains how he can have a back-story as a regular human – he didn’t start out as a cylon.

I have always had the hardest time seeing Tighe as a cylon. Having both Adama and Tighe being cylons would be too much I think.

Frak you frakkers.  I do a post about the webisodes and I don’t think I got a single comment.  Aziz does a post and lookie who shows up.

I swear to the gods of Kobol, I hate you all.

I wasn’t real interested in the webisodes until I knew most of them were up. These seem to be better than the first series of webisodes, which were also kind of disappointing.

agreed. the webeps are only appealing as a coherent story – watching them one week at a time is just masochism. Its bad enough we are gonna have essentially a cliffhanger every week with the season returning on friday.

I’ve thought Gaeta was a Cylon since the first season.

The only reason Tigh makes sense as a cylon is because we know nothing really about his past – his history essentially starts when he meets Adama as a freighter captain between the wars. The other 3 secret cylons don’t have much of a backstory, either. So it’s no big plot hole to have them show up, fully formed as it were, as cylons. Like if Starbuck was a cylon – how do you explain all the backstory with her relationship with her mother?

Adama does have a backstory/history which makes him being a cylon difficult, but I think the bio-experiment site gives them a perfect excuse.

Of course, Gaeta doesn’t have much of a backstory, either. But would anyone really care if it was him? I mean, big deal. With Adama, it is a huge deal, which is why I think they will go for him. Of course, that makes Lee and Zack the first human/cylon hybrids…

IOW, your guess is as good as mine!

I’m with John on Gaeta:  Who cares?  Honestly, think about it for a minute.  What does Gaeta being a Cylon add to the narrative at this point?  I can’t think of a single thing.  Heck, why not make Lt. Hoshi a Cylon for all the gee-wiz factor it would bring.

I’m as covinced as I am about anything that Gaeta isn’t a Cylon.  I know in my writer bones that revealing Gaeta as the Final Cylon is just poor storytelling.  And I have more faith in Moore than that.

Just finally watched the web-eps and I’m pretty sure the final cylon is neither Gaeta nor Adama, at least not the admiral. Candidates in my mind remain Baltar, Lee Adama, Starbuck (disappointing if true) and Roslin (least likely in my opinion).

Starbuck’s back story is meaningless in that it could all be fabricated- Boomer remembered her parents and childhood as well. If we’re thinking somebody grabbed and replaced by a Cylon copy, Baltar and Lee Adama are both good candidates, Roslin less so.

Just going to have to watch it and see, I guess :)

J.A.,

Moore has already stated that no one appearing in the "Last Supper" photo is the Final Cylon.  So, that leaves out everyone you’ve mentioned but Gaeta.

Well, that’s what happens when you don’t obsess over every little thing that’s put out about the series. Oh, well, mea culpa.

So, Zarek, Dualla or Dr. Cottle.

I’m championing Zarek.

Ah, but Kevin, Moore merely agreed with the statement that "none of the people in the picture is the final cylon."

Well, of course none of the people is a cylon.  Then they wouldn’t be a people!  Err, a person.  That doesn’t mean the final cylon is not in the picture…
