Oops:
I hope somebody has informed the White House that the President of the United States should never bow to any monarch.
I suppose it’s possible he’d recently been dealing with Japanese or Chinese dignitaries and wasn’t thinking clearly at the moment, but… dude!

Yep. A mistake. A big mistake? No. Does anyone seriously think that this means he takes his orders from the House of Saud?
It doesn’t help matters that he bowed to an Arab king but didn’t do the same to Queen Elizabeth. I have never bought into the whole “Obama’s a closet Muslim” meme, but this will certainly fan those flames. Remember the uproar when Bush held the hand of a Saudi prince?
This reminds me of a blogger’s (I don’t remember which one) statement:
Now we know what it’s like to have a president as dumb as George W. Bush sounded.
These are not the unsophisticates you are looking for.
George W. Bush was the missing village idiot from some Texas town, a hillbilly rube who embarrassed the country every time he walked in a room.
Barack and Michelle Obama are cosmopolitan sophisticates who will return credibility and respect to America through their charm, grace and brilliant diplomacy.
Repeat 200 times or as much as it takes.
You can go about your business.
I don’t imagine it’ll be more than a few more weeks of this stuff before it becomes acceptable to say in polite company that one didn’t vote for the guy.

Not at all.
It just says that he doesn’t know any better. Kind of like when your child tells your boss at the company Christmas party about writing his name in the snow.
Do people really think less of you for it? No, but you’re still embarrassed.
Yu-Ain:
“Do people really think less of you for it?”
“Yes, if your name is GW Bush.”
CC,
But really, do you think any of those people could possibly think any less of GW Bush than they already do? :-)
Supporters of George Bush were disappointed by his fawning over the Saudi king because Bush made counterterrorism a central issue of his administration. Watching Bush traipsing through the wildflowers with Abdullah was like seeing Eliot Ness kiss Al Capone, or Joe McCarthy slow dancing with Stalin.
Yu-Ain, I think the more the press hammered on the meme of Bush being an idiot, the more people believed it, so it’s not so much that “those people” thougth less of him, as every time a situation like this played out in the press (as this HAS NOT played out in the press) there were MORE of “those people.”
What the hey.
If you gonna be President of the Unyted States of Everywhere, why not start with the Saudi King ?
Perhaps its that old Kenyan tradition: Bow to your Arab masters before they throw you in chains and sell you to the highest bidder.
Obama bowed to a presiding King of an arab slave society; a society of active slavers.
Dude. We gotta get TOTUS morphed into headgear.
I’d wager he wasn’t thinking anything at all. Just wandering through it all in a haze. Been there, done that, myself.
This is the first real job he’s ever had, and what do ya know, it’s leader of the free world.
I sure hope he ‘s a fast learner.
He didn’t have to be thinking clearly. It was done by rote.
I’m not saying he’s a Muslim–really don’t think so and wouldn’t care if he is. In fact, if he were, I could understand it. No, he just proved to me by that ridiculously low bow that he thinks of himself (and our country by extension) as a dhimmi or (more appropriately for Arabs) an abdi.
He either did it on purpose or, like I read somewhere else, he’s a walking fuck-up. Either way, we’re screwed.
Yeah, I have ODS. So what? I’m watching my country being flushed down the toilet, and I don’t like it one bit.
Sharpening up my pitch fork and getting tar for the torches…
Barry, Harry and Nancy:
The menage a trois
that’s screwing the country
instead of each other.
Everyone on this thread should check out the video link posted by MikeLyons in the comments thread to “Ted Stevens Vindicated?” I’m surprised that President Bush thought of the USA as a dhimmi but, hey, learn something new every day.
Eh, sorry, wasn’t as convincing as I thought it was at first watching. That should teach me to pay attention.
