Smart Power

The myth of Obama’s competence took another wallop yesterday as a White House photo-op eerily reminiscent of the 9/11 attacks sent shocked New Yorkers running for cover.

Feloniously stupid it certainly was, but getting past the obvious there’s an interesting question here: what would people (especially in the press) have said if Bush had done this?

What if Sarah Palin had done this?

UPDATE: Barack is furiously investigating himself. That’s an unpleasant mental image.

Obama has become the master of blaming others. His response to this was predictable. Find someone to throw under the bus.

Funny how that never worked for Bush. Not that he tried. But comparing this to the coverage of, say, the Katrina disaster, Bush was held accountable for every action from the National Guard foot soldier to the head of FEMA, whom he fired. Yet it is still BUSH’S FAULT.

But these things happen on Obama’s watch, and he gets pass after pass after pass.

Because, you see, it’s REASONABLE to the press now to assume that the President isn’t responsible for EVERY action that happens on his watch. Of course that was an absurd concept only four months ago.

Funny how things change, huh?
