I’ve already accepted that you hate people that disagree with you theologically.

That would be a baldfaced lie and I would appreciate a retraction.

Saying people believe something extremely silly and false, and giggling at them sometimes, is not the same thing as hating them. I expect better from you. People who believe the Rapture garbage are believing something very silly that has been condemned as false from all corners of Protestantism let alone the rest of Christianity--but that doesn't mean I won't be their friends or that I hate them.

Also, to be blunt, you just slandered the 9/11 Truthers. I can't believe I'm defending them, but you just suggested that 9/11 Truthers are "people who want to tear down our current economic system, institute one that is responsible for killing millions, disenfranchising more, and also believe the government was behind the 9/11 attacks."

Truthers come in all shades of political stripes, from far right to far left. Very few of them, I'll wager, want to murder millions and disenfranchise millions more. A lot of them think the system is badly screwed up and just want to fix it, and even though they may be deluded about what's wrong they aren't evil.

So you've got a moderately important Obama administration official who's a Truther. Well that's embarrassing for the administration but hardly proof of much of anything that I can see.

As for ostriches: sez you, Chicken Little. ;-)

Yeah, pretty much what I expected from you, Dean. I think that you may be able to teach an ostrich a thing or two.

And you bring up the Rapture? What, is that supposed to bother me? I've already accepted that you hate people that disagree with you theologically. I suppose the need to dig at them at any opportunity is part of that pathology.

How you equate:

1. People that believe they'll be whisked off the planet before the end of the world

And

2. People that want to tear down our current economic system, institute one that is responsible for killing millions, disenfranchising more, and also believe the government was behind the 9/11 attacks

Is fucking beyond me. Because these are the two groups you are saying are the EXACT SAME.

You are out of your damn mind.

Frankly, Dean, “nothing to see here” is exactly what you just said.

Grown out of it ? You really see evidence of that ? Van Jones, whether you want to label him a "communist" or not, is extremely hostile to capitalism and has been placed in an unconfirmed, executive position with a sizeable budget to steer the economy of the US, and he got this job without any congressional oversight whatsoever. AND his position was created from whole cloth, meaning that it did not previously exist.

This is not "the way it has always been" and it is not a case of “nothing to see here” .

I must admit you are mastering the art of the strawman. People that believe in the Rapture ? How is that relevant. You wouldn't care about them, but so what, nobody has appointed such a person and if they had, they are not the subject here.

As I stated previously - in this very thread I think - big C communism, or as you want to call it, the threat of worldwide communism - is not the issue here. The issue is does this nation want capitalism, or doesnt' it ? Or, more accurately, as Jones himself describes, do we want to incrementally move away from capitalism in the name of Green jobs or environmentalism, or what have you, towards socialism or whatever ism you want to call it, that tears down capitalism in the name of "oppression" ?

Or do you even care ?

BTW, I also find it disturbing that your fall back in that comment is to dismiss this because these accusations only make Jones out to be a "useful idiot". Oh, well then, I guess thats ok then. Really ?????

As I asked in the previous Beck thread, I want to see Jones DEFENDED. Take him at his word and tell me why I should NOT be concerned.

I’m curious how Roger and Dean are going to respond to this. They both seemed (Dean in particular) to take glee in tearing this whole mess down. Neither of the spending an iota of time actually looking into it.

This statement pisses me off. I didn't do anything of the sort. I never made any comment on Van Jones when I was busy criticizing Glenn Beck's more ludicrous questions and behavior.--questions that showed clear ignorance, and clear lack of basic research on Glenn Beck's part, I might add.

Regarding Van Jones: I think I said this before, I don't consider the fact that someone was once a Communist to be particularly damning. The world is full of such people, most of them extremely naive. Lenin called them "useful idiots." By most accounts I've seen, he grew out of it--as most of them do. And, since worldwide Communism is no longer a threat, I simply don't find it more than mildly interesting. Many former Communists now even vote Republican.

Now, as for him being a Truther: well, there goes the idiocy thing again. But what of it? Is he being put in a position where that sort of idiocy would really matter? Doesn't look like it to me. I have friends who are Truthers and generally decent people despite their obvious insanity in this area.

I suppose that would fit Cosmic's snotty "nothing to see here" prediction. But really, out of thousands of Administration officials, you just uncovered one who's a Truther. What are the odds that if we kept looking, we'd find someone who believes in "The Rapture" garbage too? And why would I care either way? What is it the guy's going to do with his Truther powers to destroy the country?

The problem here is that Dean and Roger and Mike all want to poo poo this stuff because Obama would never institute communism. No, but he routinely exhibits his hostility to capitalism. He is smart enough to know that you can't just go whole hog into socialism or communism, but you can bit by bit walk back the freedom in the marketplace that represents capitalism. And he is absolutely doing that.

And really their goal is not so much "communism" or "socialism", it is the dismantling of what they believe is the gross unfairness of "capitalism". The point being that the ultimate goal is irrelevant when the obvious path being laid in front of us is undoing as much capitalism as they can. The reason it is important to identify their ultimate philosophy is because people need to be shocked into recognizing just how much that agenda runs counter the founding of this nation.

So the answer to "will Obama make this nation communist" is certainly NO. There is only so much you can do with the political capital that one election can provide and despite the best efforts of the media, people are actually quite a bit smarter than the Democrats give them credit for. The people will only allow so much.

But is time to wake up and smell the communists. Van Jones is a whacko with essentially not even a smidgeon of a clue about how an economy runs or how to create jobs. But by all means, Green Jobs for the win. I mean really, that is just ludicrous on its face.
