I watch about two hours of TV a week, and most of that is sports. However, I have managed to catch a couple episodes of “King of the Hill” and I found it to be amusing and occasionally touching. I don’t regret any of the time I spent on those few episodes.
“Family Guy” OTOH makes me regret even the time it took to walk into the living room if it happened to be on…
They made Hank look a little too dumb and naive at times–in fact, they did that to Peggy too. A bit too much for me, anyway. I actually enjoyed the three episodes of The Good Family that I saw, although like any show it will need time to find its legs (and may or may not get the chance).
dean, wtf? what episode? As far as I can tell, and I’m a KotH addict whose seen every episode at least twice, they always treated Hank with respect. If anything it was his values that were out of sync with the assholes and jerks around him, like his father and Mr Strickland or the car salesman guy who sold Hank his cars at sticker price.
the cardinal rule of KotH was – show Hank o be true to his beliefs, but never disrespect him for having them. You can tell Judge loved his character, and since Judge is a native texan you know hes basing Hank of people he knew and loved.
I loved that show early on, but I burnt out on it pretty fast.
A scene that is seared, seared, into my memory, is when the family ran into the storm cellar when a tornado came through.
Hank was last in, and while he was trying to get the door closed, the tornado ripped his clothes off. There he was, completely naked, flapping in the wind.
When I saw that shiny, pale white body, with a bulging belly and a flapping butt, I was shocked, and almost repulsed. It was a pathetic caricature of a middle aged white male body. I had never seen such a sight in a cartoon.
A few days later, as I stumbled around the bedroom in the morning,
I saw the reflection of my own naked body in a dresser mirror.
And then I realized, “Damn, those guys nailed it!”

I watched the first few episodes of “King of the Hill,” and loved it. Until the “Hank’s Colonoscopy” episode.
Haven’t see one since. I wasn’t offended; really – I just don’t do poop humor.
Bye, Hank.
…[sob]….[sob]…g-bye, Hank! I’ll miss both the propane and the propane accessories!
