The Open Hand Meets The Nuclear Fist

Smart power.

We scrap the Eastern European missile defense program that Russia hates, and Russia responds by… changing their policy to start using nukes in just about every conceivable military situation:

In an interview published today in Izvestia, Nikolai Patrushev, the secretary of the Kremlin’s security council, said the new doctrine offers “different options to allow the use of nuclear weapons, depending on a certain situation and intentions of a would-be enemy. In critical national security situations, one should also not exclude a preventive nuclear strike against the aggressor.”

What’s more, Patrushev said, Russia is revising the rules for the employment of nukes to repel conventionally armed attackers, “not only in large-scale, but also in a regional and even a local war.”

This is what we mean, lefties, when we say you’re dangerously naive.

“But… but… at least we’re getting some help from Russia on Iran, right?”

Yeah, not so much.

Enjoy that Nobel, Neville Obama.

And

Tentative Inspection Program Would Allow Russia to Visit U.S. Nuclear Sites

I want to know more details. For example, is he talking about battlefield tactical nukes? We (arguably foolishly) banned those 40 years ago. So what exactly is he talking about?

BTW I couldn’t care less if Russians inspect our sites so long as we get to inspect theirs.

Neville Obama…unfair to Neville Chamberlain!!..who, while following a foolish policy of appeasement, also invested in building up Britain’s defenses.

Dean,

One would assume they aren’t going to throw around multi-megaton weapons in a local war.

Well to be blunt, you never know with KGB types. I hate to be so harsh but it’s true.

All I’m saying is, I want to know more. If they’re talking about battlefield tactical nukes, well, honestly, I’m less concerned. On the other hand, Russia really is not a democracy and while it is clearly not the threat that the USSR once was her aspirations to global power are unquestionable. It’s worrying. Definitely. I’m just saying I want more information.

Whatever the merits may be of a discussion of what Russia’s legitimate or illegitimate national ambitions may be, it has to be acknowledged that this is a classic example of Obama being pwnd by Putin.

I love how this is ignored as if it is not a substantive evaluation of the situation with significant and obvious impact on the future of US foreign policy.

Obama was pwnd by Putin. Totally. Humiliatingly.

Our President is shown to be, once again, an embarrassing amateur, totally incompetent in geopolitical affairs.

If you think that’s irrelevent to our future…. I dunno what to say.
