Fort Hood

It’s horrible. My initial reaction here, including wondering whether it’s significant that today was Guy Fawkes Day.

Actually, aziz, it’s Guy Fawkes Night not Day. I’m sure it isn’t significant. Catholics don’t do that stuff during the day.

On the other hand, Major Hassan definitely had a psycho-local-gun problem and obviously an agenda, yet he was a US Army non-combatant shooting on the unarmed at Ft. Hood, except for the police guys. And he was never deployed.

Tragic for sure. But who knows what’s going on in this guys brain. It just seems that ruling out islamic connections actual or ideological is futile at this stage.

It seems me that CAIR and yourself with the Guy Fawkes stuff to cover personal/political agendas is ill-founded at this stage.

The news (General Cone) is reporting that Major Hassan was not killed but wounded and now in hospital/custody.

Update:

Dr. Phil on Larry King sez that these shootings are un-natural acts and the shooters were acting un-naturally.

Honest, I wouldn’t lie.

The fact he holds rank and has had a military career suggests to me that a psychological problem may be an underlying cause.

Huh? Are you saying that military personnel are inherently unsound psychologically? Remember, this guy was never deployed. Do you really want to make a sweeping generalization like that when you would condemn in the harshest terms people who make similar sweeping generalizations of Muslims?

Apparently Hassan was showing signs of losing it, and had been for months.

Unfortunately, “Political Correctness” means nobody is supposed to talk about that, or do anything about it.

Mustn’t offend people. Mustn’t be prejudiced or judgemental.

Mustn’t notice the warning signs.

Have you no shame, Aziz?

In a single post you play apologist (Hassan wasn’t really a Muslim) and spit in the face of the people he killed (Hassan is clearly deranged because he’s in the military).

My God. What is wrong with you?

If you said something like this to my face, I’d hit you. This is probably the sickest thing I’ve ever seen you write.

And then you try to tie it in to Guy Fawkes Night? To what end? “Oh, look, Christians kill too!”

It’s taking every ounce of decency in me not to launch into a tirade of invectives.

You’re sick. And you’re indecent. And I’m not sure I even want to know you any longer.

Kevin D -

I’ll grant you the Guy Fawkes thing seems like a defensive throwaway (Christians fought too!),

But why would you necessarily interpret this …

“The fact he holds rank and has had a military career suggests to me that a psychological problem may be an underlying cause. We just don’t know.”

… as Aziz saying “he’s clearly deranged because he’s in the military,” is beyond me.

I interpret it as “he’s deranged because he’s a major with a career, and obviously not some quickly placed sleeper agent,” or “down on his luck loser.” My interpretation is reinforced by, uh, the respect he shows another Muslim who died honorably in the military, defensively mentioned in the same post.

Yes, Aziz’s post is filled with goal keeping re: the muslim angle, but to launch into outrage because he somehow smeared the military is, off, I think. It’s also unclear where Aziz said he “wasn’t really a Muslim.” It’s obvious that the body of the post (excluding the update) was written before the media verified that the shooter was Muslim.

Your history with Aziz has apparently made you read anything the guy writes with the worst possible assumptions. Regarding this …

“If you said something like this to my face, I’d hit you.”

And if I was there and saw you hit him, I’d do a super kung fu karate chop that stunned you into submission, tie you up with shoelaces, and slap you vigorously with a wet noodle, while yelling “Suspicious reading comprehension does not justify violence!”

Seriously though, and with respect: as a generally reasonable human being who also read the post, I think you’re misreading.

BTW – I probably agree with you that it’s ridiculous how the media is falling all over themselves to blame anything but jihad, and I also suspect I disagree with Aziz and several other Muslim writers who may make similar excuses. It seems like there are only two extremes: blame Islam! Or … we must not blame or mention Islam in any way!

We’ll see as more detail comes out, but religious motivation seems fairly likely, and coupled with multiple shooters (if that holds true) conducting a premeditated act of violence, especially against unarmed at a military installation, there’s not much other litmus needed to qualify as an act of “Islamic terrorism.”

the Guy Fawkes thing has zero to do with Christianity or blame or whatnot and has to do with speculating what deranged SHIT was going thru this person’s mind. Maybe he was trying to rationalize it the same way. WTF kind oif shithead do you have to be to take offense at that!!!

Bill. My post quite clealry – especially with teh Guy Fawkes thing – speculates some sort of islamic grievance, so i dunno where you get your binary assertion that Im trying to hide the muslim connection here. In fact my whole post is steeped in just that.

and my comment, MikeLyons, was intended to mean that he was seemingly stable with a loyal career until now. So I am speculating something pushed him over the edge recently.

and, a special fuck off to you Kevin. Im not a violent person either but if you want to come by and take a swing, feel free. Its clear youre the sort of person who abandons his friends and ha sno loyalty to anyone – you just are ready to kick anyone when they’re down, huh? no wonder youre on Dean’s shit list.

BTW, thank you Bill. I really appreciate your measured response. M previous comment was written in white-hot rage and I didnt even see yours.

FWIW, in case i didnt express myself above clearly, I have not in my post attempted to deny the “muslim angle” and if theres a part of the post you think does try to minimize it, please email me and let me know.

And by no means was the Guy Fawkes thing a “Chrsitians do it too” crap. I was clearly talking about the DATE of the shooting. And speculating, again, about the religious motivation being a possible one. The fact that you also misunderstood my point means it was my fault for not being clear, though you at least had basic human decency not to accuse me of being evil or threaten me with violence.

Im done with Kevin. It would take a pretty handsome apology for me to even acknowledge his existence on ths blog from now on. Dead to me.
