Today is the 234th birthday of the United States Marine Corps.
Happy birthday to the most professional, most dedicated, and most feared fighting force the world has ever seen.
Ooh-rah!
UPDATE: Hot Air has a video from the Commandant of the Corps in celebration of this event. Check it out.
And a quick joke, if I may:
MAN: I heard the Marines are a department of the Navy. Is this true?
MARINE: Yes, sir, it is.
MAN: What department?
MARINE: The men’s department.

What I want to know from any Marines out there is this… Today, at MCAS Miramar (right outside my window), I heard reveille as I was eating my breakfast, followed by Halls of Montezuma. I was just finishing breakfast at 8 a.m. Isn’t that awfully late for reveille for Marines?
Maybe it wasn’t reveille? Maybe it was a call to parade or inspection? I haven’t heard reveille since the scouts, but that’s what it sounded like.
You want to try that joke on a bunch of SEALs, maybe?
No, Ron, I do not.
I’ll let some guys from Marine Force Recon tell it. They’ll probably tell it better anyway.
I know a few SEALs, and a few Marine Force Recon…the SEALs that I know would have laughed, agreed, and specified…the mens underwear dept.
See! A good time had by all.
