AZ governor brings back Christmas

Today I’m proud to be a ‘Zonie:

PHOENIX _ Gov. Jan Brewer said she isn’t going to play “word games” with holiday decorations in State Capitol’s Executive Tower lobby.

“I believe in calling something what it is, and it is a Christmas tree, just as a menorah is a menorah,” the governor said in a statement on Tuesday.

Those symbols had generic names _ holiday tree and candle holder _ under former Gov. Janet Napolitano, who wanted to avoid singling out certain religions.

Deborah Sheasby, legal counsel for the conservative interest group Center for Arizona Policy, said the governor made a good decision. “The government does not have to shy away from acknowledging what it is,” she said of the holiday display.  More here (nope, no more there)

Update: Examiner has removed my post for reasons that won’t be clear until my boss gets in on Monday.

Sorry, but you’re not a Zonie. I’m a Zonie, though.

But, sure, Brewer’s in the right here. And if a satanist group wishes to erect a pentagram on state property, I’m sure she’ll stand with them, too.

(Were I an Arizonan, I might agitate for the display of a sphere of vacuum, or something else along those lines.)

The author was referring to herself as a ‘Zonie.

You see a ‘Zonie is not a Zonie.
