Females Outnumber Males in Universities: Ergo, Females are Victims of Discrimination

That seems to be the line of reasoning behind a federal investigation into potential discrimination in US Universities.

Apparently, 19 schools have been subpoenaed for admissions data by the US Commission on Civil Rights. The commission wants to determine if the schools are admitting a higher percentage of male versus female applicants.

From the Commission’s Public Affairs chief:

“…Some suggest that the male-female balance at some schools is tilted more toward females and colleges might be favoring men in their admissions decisions to try to balance that. So looking at a school’s gender split in its student body does not automatically indicate bias is not occurring in admissions, Ostrowsky said…..”

Heh. I have seen the most amazing–simply amazing–efforts to make just about anything you can think of be used as proof of oppression of women. Younger women, in my experience, are more likely to roll their eyes at this stuff than the women of my generation, which I find heartening. When we treat women like fully capable and responsible adults, we stop treating them like perpetual victims, no?

If you have a series of potential filters, and you ensure that none of them are biased in one direction, the overall result will likely be biased in the opposite direction.

ha ha, awesome. Statistical disparities used to be “proof” of discrimination against the minority. Now they are “proof” of discrimination against the majority? Well, only if that majority is a mascot of the politically correct left.

Similarly, the term “global warming” is apparently being phased out in favor of “climate change”. This way, the climate change folks are always right (at least rhetorically).
