Trailer music is my current crack and I just found out about a new (new to me anyway) trailer music production studio called Position Music. Check ‘em out:

Now I have a third to add to Immediate Music and Two Steps From Hell!

Here’s a song I really love, but it has to be in contention for the worst video EVER!!!

What ever happened to hang gliding anyway?

of Montreal, a trippy rock band of the modern era. So sick of posting old stuff.

Here’s a link since I can’t embed.

jrogge,

I really liked that video. Only so-so on the music though.

I know what you’re saying about getting sick of posting old stuff. But I just can’t find much new stuff that I enjoy.

I keep trying though, so I appreciate links like that.

Jay: Holy cow, it’s practically a country tune! I never heard that before!

Meh, I like the old stuff. Keep it comin. As for me I’m trying to focus on the new “out there” stuff, mix things up a bit. That band interestingly enough ended up getting one of their old tunes used in an Outback steakhouse commercial of all things. Some of the new bands that have grabbed the old “pop” sound and have blended it with rock have created some good stuff.

BTW good on ya for posting Sail on, great song.

Here’s some more obscurity, Bela Fleck and the Flack Tones. This is 10 years old, but any band that incorporates a Tuvian throat singer into Jazz, Bluegrass, Fusion has to be heard once.

Jared: of Montreal reminded me a lot of Beatles and especially early Electric Light Orchestra. You can tell who their influences are, anyway. :-)

Kev: I dug that, what’s “position music?”

That Stewie Griffin song is genius!!! Never heard of him.

Haha. Stewie Griffin is the cartoon character in the video; the actual guy is Seth McFarlane, the genius/madman behind the show “Family Guy.” Which people seem to either love or hate, there’s little in-between. I’m one of those who loves it, though it’s often crass and vulgar. Here’s another favorite:

The whole thing is voiced by McFarlane, actually. Very talented voice actor and singer as well as writer and producer. I hate him. ;-)

Here’s a funkier, live performance by the Commodores, from the same time period. Crappy video and audio, but you can’t expect much from the mid 70’s. Workin the synths and electric pianos. Lionel Ritchie is a musical genius, IMO.

Jrogge, I’m a huge Bela fan. Loved that one!

Also, just so ya’ll know, I’ve pulled a half Aziz. I decided to skip the political/contentious topics during the month of July, and just do some fun stuff. Till August 15, or so. In the “olden days”, that’s when the traditional political season began in the US.

Dean,

Position Music is a company which produces licensed music. They share that in common with two other companies I am familiar with: Immediate Music and Two Steps From Hell.

Essentially, they create original music for companies to license and place in their media. The most common example for this is movie trailers. Sometime the marketing/PR department of a studio takes cuts from catalogs their respective companies already own, and other times they pull from one of these licensing houses’ catalogs. Most often they seem to do a little of both.

And, sometimes, they commission an original work. The most recent example I can think of is this trailer:

The song is called “Freedom Fighters” and it’s from Two Steps From Hell.

Ironically, trailer music has become so popular some companies have taken to making some of their music available for purchase by the public. I say ‘ironically’ because the music from these companies have been, to this point, only available through illegal download. What’s nice though is these companies see how popular their work is with soundtrack fans and have responded by making some of it available to them as a regular release.

For example: Immediate Music (under the band name Globus) released two albums: “Trailerhead” and “Epicon”. Two Steps From Hell has released “Invincible”.

Trailer music???

That would be AC/DC and Lynyrd Skynyrd where I come from….

Another “production music” outfit is Firstcom. They have been around for ages and you hear their stuff in a lot of sportscasts and newscasts. We licensed some of their music at Quality Computers back in the ’90s for our instructional and promotional videos.
