I asked my son to share a cool music video again and this is what he gave me:
Actually, two for the price of one!!
These videos are made entirely with a favorite video game series of ours called Halo. Heh. I cannot wait for Halo: Reach, due out in about three weeks. The two of us probably won’t emerge from it for days after it comes out. ;-)
Got any cool music you’d like to share?

Francesca Battistelli – It’s Your Life
Continuing the theme of the first song in the first of the OP videos:

On an unrelated note, a very good rendition of In the Hall of the Mountain King, performed by a Dutch Metal band:

Count me in as an eager anticipant of Halo:Reach. Maybe I just really like the game, or maybe movies have gone downhill, but my excitement in the build-up to this game, well, I don’t think I’ve ever been this excited about seeing a movie.
Sure, I will definitely see Harry Potter, but I might not even see it in the first month it’s out. I anticipate picking up Halo:Reach the first night. In fact, I even put a deposit a couple of months ago to reserve my copy. I’ve certainly never done that for any movie.
Maybe it’s just that the best video games rival movie quality experiences in production values, can have better stories, and allow you to be part an active participant, rather than just a passive consumer of the experience. We’ve certainly come a long way from Pac-Man.
On the other hand, I’ve just seen Scott Pilgrim and The Other Guys, and really enjoyed both of them.
a little apropos, Hail Social’s “The Way It Is”.

i’ve also been getting into the depreciation guild, who are kind of throwbacks to the old 4ad sound with the addition of gameboy synthesizers. check their song “heavy eyes” on their myspace page:

Jay: I’m entirely with you. I had lost interest in video games for long spans of years–playing them sometimes, then losing interest again, etc.–until I had a kid, and began playing regularly with him, and I’ve watched over the last 10 years as video games have matured to the point where many of them have writers, directors, producers, and actors–essentially, production teams to rival movies. Only you’re IN the movie.
My favorites of the last few years to show this simply startling and superb quality in cinematic as well as gameplay experience have been the Bioshock series, Fallout 3, and, to a lesser extent, Halo 3 and Halo: ODST. Halo: Reach looks to bring the storytelling quality to new levels for the franchise, and so far as I’m concerned the multiplayer component of Halo has never been surpassed, and this only looks like an improvement.
Seen the latest trailer? It’s awesome.
I couldn’t find any song called “Heavy Eyes” there.
dean – you just have to scroll down on the music player. (scroll bar’s a little hard to see but it’s on the right side of the player)
